Square works with any US-issued and most internationally-issued magstripe or chip cards bearing a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, or UnionPay logo.

Can you use square internationally?
However, you can accept cash transactions while traveling internationally. Note: If you’re in the country where you activated your Square account, you can process international cards.
Does square accept government credit cards?
You can use Square to accept payments from any cards with the Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover logos. However, Square cannot guarantee approval of government or military cards such as GSA cards, as these cards are highly regulated and have strict policies around spending.
Does the square accept debit cards?
Square works with any Canadian-issued and most non-Canadian issued credit cards with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB or Discover logo as well as Interac Debit cards. Using the Square Contactless + Chip Reader, you can accept INTERAC Flash® transactions (e.g. tap debit) up to $100.
What countries does square support?
US, Canada, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Square currently doesn’t support payment card processing outside of these countries or in U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Northern Mariana Islands.
